Terry's Thoughts September 2021
As I sit here writing this article, I am struck, once again, by how God is still moving and working in the lives of those who do not have a relationship with Him and those who are far from Him. Despite the aftermath of covid, despite the division that surrounds us, despite the political turmoil all around us, despite the problems within the church here in America, and despite the hurting that many are experiencing just now, God is certainly moving whether we see it or not. I hear, each week, how children, youth, and adults are giving their lives to Jesus. In one situation, teenagers are turning from their lives of rebellion and searching for an answer to life’s problems by asking if Jesus could be the answer they have longed for. The result is they are finding him due to the faithfulness of pastors and churches who are reaching out to them. Even though the VBS season is done, and many were scaled back, we still had children and adults give their lives to Jesus. Finally, despite the struggles that have plagued the families of our area and churches, Jesus is healing relationships, restoring marriages, and revealing to us all just what is most important in life. I would say we are living in a time of great struggle, but also in a time of great opportunity. If we would stop, take a deep breath and observe, we would in fact see Him and the works of His hands through His people. It is because of what I see God is up to that I never lose “hope” and would encourage you to remember the first line and chorus of that old hymn “The Solid Rock,” which states, “My Hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. (Chorus) On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.” My prayer is that you are leaning on Jesus’ name more and our solid rock Jesus while finding your hope.
While there are a number of other issues and events that need to be mentioned here, I want to remind everyone that our ANNUAL CHURCH PROFILES (ACPs) are now available to the clerks of our member churches with a deadline that is coming up soon. If you have not already received your church’s ACP please call our office at 252-332-3235 or email us at 60wcba@gmail.com for your copy today. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call Rebeccah our administrative assistant or Katie Carter our associational clerk at 252-724-2302 (cell) or katiecarter92@gmail.com any time.
Finally, please check out the other great articles, reminders, and announcements found in this newsletter and on our website westchowan.org. Remember I love you and consider it my honor to serve You!
